There’s something magical about slowing down and brewing your coffee by hand. With the gentle pour, the rising aroma, and that first sip of perfectly balanced flavor,  it’s more than just coffee, it’s a moment. And when you’re using Kona beans, that moment becomes truly special.

New to pour-over? Don’t worry, here’s a simple guide to help you bring out the best in your Hawaiian Coffee from your own kitchen.

To celebrate the season, we’re featuring our most sought-after Kona beans, including the rare Kona Peaberry and 100% Kona coffee. Perfect for cozy mornings, thoughtful gifts, or treating yourself.

What Makes Kona Coffee So Unique?

Kona coffee beans are grown on the slopes of Hawaii’s Big Island. 100% Kona coffee is  smooth and well-balanced with vanilla and milk chocolate notes, all thanks to the unique growing climate and extra care from farm to cup. More special, Kona Peaberry are prized for their intense notes of milk chocolate, sweet spice, raw honey, and hints of mixed berries. They’re an honest expression of what makes Hawaiian coffee so special, and the pour-over method lets those flavors shine.

Did you know, Peaberry is a very rare bean and accounts for only 1% of the total crop. Most coffee cherries contain two beans, but a peaberry is a rare, natural variation where only one bean forms inside the cherry. Because it grows alone, it develops a rounder shape and more concentrated flavor resulting in a cup that’s exceptionally smooth, rich, and vibrant.

What You’ll Need

Before we start, here’s your pour-over checklist:

  • Kona Peaberry or 100% Kona coffee beans

  • Grinder

  • Pour-over dripper (like a V60 or Chemex)

  • Paper filter

  • Gooseneck kettle (for controlled pouring)

  • Scale and timer

  • Hot water (around 200°F or 93°C)

  • Your favorite mug

How to brew coffee pour over

Step-by-Step Brewing Guide

1. Grind Fresh

Grind 21 g of Kona beans to a medium-fine grind. Fresh grinding helps preserve aroma, sweetness, and clarity. (Don’t have a grinder? We can grind the beans for you).

2. Prepare Your V60

Place the filter in the dripper and rinse it with hot water. This removes papery flavors and warms your equipment.

3. Add Coffee & Start the Bloom

Pour your 21 g of ground coffee into the filter. Start your timer and pour 30-50 g of water over the grounds, making sure everything is evenly saturated. Let it bloom for 45 seconds.

✨ This step releases trapped gases and sets the stage for even extraction.

4. Slow, Steady Pours

After the bloom, continue pouring gently. Pour until you reach 340 g total water, using a slow, circular motion. Try to keep the water level consistent and avoid flooding the dripper.

Total brew time should land around 2:30 – 3:00 minutes. This is a sweet spot that brings out the natural brightness and sweetness.

5. Swirl & Enjoy

Once the water finishes draining, give a gentle swirl to your coffee. Take a little moment to savor the aroma… then sip.

Expect notes of milk chocolate, honey sweetness, and a silky-smooth body. That’s everything that makes Kona coffee so beloved.

Tips for a Better Brew

🌸 Use filtered water: The cleaner your water, the cleaner your coffee tastes.

🌸 Mind your temperature: Too hot extracts bitterness; too cool makes it flat.

🌸 Experiment: Try slightly adjusting your grind size, coffee and water ratio, or pour rate. It's all part of the fun.
